Quad Condemns Pahalgam Terror Attack: Major Diplomatic Support for India
India Gains Global Backing at Quad Summit in Washington, D.C.
Now, recently, very good news has come. An important summit of the Quad is held in Washington, D.C., US. Jaishankar sahab goes there to represent India. Foreign ministers of Australia and Japan also go there, and in this summit, the Pahalgam terror attack is openly condemned. Here you will be able to see that Quad condemns Pahalgam terror attacks, calls for perpetrators to be brought to justice.
India’s Rejection of the SCO Summit Statement: A Backdrop
This is a major development for India because you will remember that just a few days ago when the SCO summit was held in China, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit was held, in the final statement of that summit, China and Pakistan removed the mention of the Pahalgam terror attack and in response to this, India refused to sign the final statement of the SCO summit altogether.
After that, you saw that this SCO summit was held where basically only the defense ministers, NSA, and National Security Advisors were gathering. Suddenly, this SCO summit was discussed in the international media, not because it was a very good summit. The main headline everywhere was that India rejected the final statement of the SCO.
International Media Reacts: Mixed Coverage
For example, let me show you, headlines of this type were published everywhere that India rejected signing the statement of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization because it was pro-Pakistan. Here, the attacks in Balochistan on the Pakistan Army were mentioned. The Pahalgam attack was not being mentioned.
The international media has published such a headline. BBC publishes a different headline that India refused to sign the joint statement over Kashmir. They should simply write that terrorism is an issue here. Terrorism was not being acknowledged.
India’s Firm Stand Against Terrorism
Dr. Jaishankar said that we did not sign the SCO declaration because terrorism was not acknowledged. Many people in India started thinking that the SCO is a very big group. But remember, Pakistan is a member, and many times you can say that the SCO is informally led by China.
China and Pakistan have together saved Pakistani terrorists in the UN many times. So this is nothing new. It is not a surprise that there was a terrorist attack in India, and Pakistan stopped this mention of Pahalgam, and China supported Pakistan.
Russia remained silent to a large extent. As for the rest of the countries, again, if you look at any other country in the SCO, none of them are economically significant compared to the Quad.
Why Quad Matters More

Quad, on the other hand, you will find Japan, the US, Australia, and India. If we leave Australia aside, then India, the US, and Japan are among the top five economies in the world.
So, in the Quad, the Pahalgam terrorist attack has been properly condemned in the official declaration that the perpetrator should be brought to justice. This is a big diplomatic victory for India.
Statement from the Quad Summit: Global Zero Tolerance on Terrorism
Initially, people were not able to believe that for the first time in the Quad declaration, the Pahalgam attack would be mentioned. People said it would not be written in the official declaration, but it was.
The coming together of the Quad sends a strong message to the world that the rest of the members stand with India. Jaishankar sahab, standing in the US with Marco Rubio and the USA’s Defense Minister, made it clear:
“The world must display zero tolerance, victims and perpetrators must never be equalized, and India has every right to defend its people against terrorism, and we will exercise that right.”
Economic Warfare Through Terrorism
Jaishankar sahab also said the Pahalgam terrorist attack was a type of economic warfare. The attack was done to damage the tourism sector of Jammu and Kashmir. There is a fear that if tourists go to Kashmir, an attack might happen.
This attack was meant to destroy the main pillar of Kashmir’s economy.
He also said that it is no secret that there are terrorist gangs in Pakistan, there is terror infrastructure, and India will no longer spare the government that supports and finances those groups.
Rebutting Trump’s Claims on India-Pak Ceasefire
Also interestingly, Jaishankar sahab addressed Donald Trump’s claim about using trade to mediate the India-Pakistan ceasefire. He said:
“Nothing like this happened. I was present in that room. PM Modi did not receive Trump’s call. During Operation Sindoor, JD Vance’s call came. There was no discussion about trade.”
Many articles have been published with the headline: “I was in the room.”
India’s Bold Move in Operation Sindoor
Jaishankar also said that during Operation Sindoor, only one input came repeatedly from Washington that Pakistan would attack. Despite that, India attacked Pakistan’s air bases.
This is a significant message from India in the US.
“We are now moving to a policy of no impunity. We will not accept that terrorists are just proxies. It is now quite clear that the Pakistani state supports the terrorists, and India will no longer be afraid of any nuclear blackmail.”
Quad’s Growing Military Angle
People may ask: When will the military angle come into the Quad? A little bit has already started.
The Quad Nations have agreed for the first time to launch the At Sea Observer Mission. The Coast Guard and, to some extent, the Navy will also have a role.
This is the beginning of the naval and military angle in Quad.
Message to China and the Future of the Quad
India has sent a message to China: If your policy of providing protection to terrorism remains the same, we will increase our participation in the Quad.
India will also host the Quad Summit in 2025. It seems likely that Donald Trump may attend.
However, there are concerns. Trump recently threatened Japan with a 35% tariff and demanded billions of dollars for military protection. This could damage US-Japan relations, which might eventually impact the Quad’s strength.
Final Thought and a Question
India has launched a Military Review to eliminate the use of any part from a particular country in our military equipment.
Question: Which country’s small parts are we targeting to eliminate?
Options: France, China, the US, or Russia?
